WEATHER

While Namibia is a year-round destination with over 300 sunny days annually, the best weather for a 4×4 trip in Namibia is during the dry winter season (May to October), when roads are most reliable and wildlife viewing is at its peak.

The “green” or rainy season (November to April) can make certain remote tracks impassable due to mud or flash floods.

DRIVING

Driving is on the left-hand side of the road.
Always stay alert on Namibia’s roads – wildlife can appear and cross at any moment.
It is mandatory to drive with your headlights on at all times, especially in dusty or rainy conditions.

In the heat, travel with at least 5 litres of water per person per day. Filling stations are rare in remote areas.

WILDLIFE

Namibia is a premier wildlife destination where you can see iconic African species adapted to some of the world’s harshest environments. You can find the “Big Five” spread across different regions rather than all in one place.

The Cape Cross Seal Reserve hosts one of the world’s largest breeding colonies and coastal lagoons at Walvis Bay and Swakopmund attract massive flocks of flamingos and pelicans. Look out for the Namaqua chameleon found in the Namib Desert.
