WEATHER

Botswana weather is defined by two distinct seasons that dramatically impact road conditions and wildlife visibility.

The Dry Season (May–October) is widely considered the best time for first-time self-drivers due to predictable road conditions and high wildlife concentration. Clear skies, zero rainfall, and low humidity.

However the Green/Wet Season (November – March) is considered the best time for birdwatching and seeing newborn animals when vegetation is lush and dense.



In national parks, strictly follow speed limits to protect the ecosystem.

Distances are vast with no fuel or shops between major hubs like Maun and Kasane. Always carry extra fuel and water.

WILDLIFE

Botswana’s wildlife is concentrated in diverse ecosystems, from the lush wetlands of the north to the arid desert plains of the south. While the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino) can be found, Botswana is particularly famous for hosting Africa’s largest elephant population.

Botswana is a global stronghold for the endangered African Wild Dog predator. Nata Bird Sanctuary is famous for thousands of flamingos and pelicans.
